Backpacking trip

by | Jan 6, 2020 | Cherkasy

What do people usually do after celebrating New Year? They usually rest, sleep, finish their leftover salads and dishes, watch TV or scroll through social media. But not us! We go into the mountains to hike and backpack.

Here’s a quick recap of our winter backpacking trip. it was hyper saturated with numerous events. In three days we’ve hiked over 60 km (37mi) in backcountry! We’ve visited the Elijah Church, in which Bohdan Khmelnytski is buried and we’ve been to the birthplace of Maxim Zaliznyak.

We have tried water from three different wells in Subotov, walked through the Cold Valley, through which the Haidamaki walked and saw many other historic places of our country.

We were refreshed by the pure water, infused with Argentum (silver) out of the Zhyvun spring, we saw a herd of roe deer and slept in a wind mill that is over 100 years old.

And you won’t believe this, but we spent a night in a all-women’s monastery, where they kindly gave us, weary travelers, some food and a room with a bathroom to rest.

Everywhere we went, we had deep conversations on spiritual topics and people that we met were hospitable and helpful. In all this we saw God’s providing and guiding hand.

In the end of our trip, we went to a slavic sauna and after had a wonderful supper with tea.
